WDM
WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) combines a series of optical signals with different information but different wavelengths into one bundle and transmits them along a single fiber. CWDM and DWDM are two key WDM technologies.Their deployment depends on different network and user requirements. As a special kind of CWDM, CCWDM plays more important role in today's fiber optics market. In this blog, we will try to explain all of them.

CWDM
CWDM supports up to 18 wavelength channels transmitted through a fiber at the same time. To achieve this, the different wavelengths of each channel are 20nm apart. CWDM technology offers a convenient and cost-efficient solution for shorter distances of up to 70 kilometers. For distances between 40 and 70 kilometers, CWDM tends to be limited to supporting eight channels.

DWDM
DWDM, supports up to 80 simultaneous wavelength channels, with each of the channels only 0.8nm apart. Unlike CWDM, DWDM connections can be amplified and can, therefore, be used for transmitting data much longer distances.

CCWDM
Based on TFF (Thin Film Filter)technology,CCWDM(Compact Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing), works in the same way as CWDM modules. However, the package size of CCWDM is smaller than CWDM and with lower insertion loss and better consistency.
